Healing the body through the practice of embodied connection, sensation & movement

With an emphasis on restoring our sense of safety, reconnecting to our own natural rhythms and building the capacity to trust our inner wisdom, somatic yoga explores conscious sensation, attuning to our breath and expression through organic, self-directed movement. This beautiful form of yoga helps to regulate the nervous system, promoting its rest and renew functions so that the body can start to heal itself from physical and emotional pain.

As well as decreasing the level of stress hormones in the blood, the  practice of somatic yoga helps to reduce our reactiveness to stressors - lessening the intensity of our fight/flight/faun response which in turn reduces stress and anxiety, improves emotional regulation, enhances self-compassion and releases stored energy from within the body.

Somatic experiencing

Somatic practice is the process of enquiring into knowing ourselves and the world around us, through listening to the body and its language as an authority in itself. During sessions, we become actively aware by tracking sensation, observing and attuning to hidden parts of ourselves, exploring self-directed primal movement, holding space to express and encouraging curiosity about what we feel and discover.

Through somatic experiencing we learn attunement by turning inward to sense what is happening within. Somatic practice helps us shift any influence from our external world towards our own knowing and felt sense. We can then process these influences or triggers in a safe and compassionate way.

The transforming qualities of yoga and somatic practice

Brings mind and body back into union

Regular practice of connecting to the body, away from living in our heads, improves our ability to be present and restful.

Reduces stress, anxiety & depression

Peace in the body helps balance our delicate nervous system, so we can approach life from a place of deep knowing and self-compassion.

Promotes emotional regulation

Somatic practice teaches us to oscillate the nervous system using titration so it becomes easier to regulate and express emotions safely.

Promotes a sense of renewal & empowerment

Sensation and movement helps to release stored energy from past wounds, providing self-healing and an inner sense of authority.

“Yoga is the journey of the self, through the self, to the self.”

Bhagavad Gita
